Camille denim jacket from Monki. Get it here
You seen right, a denim
coat. A piece of blue perfection. Loving how the buttons down the center are hidden when buttoned to keep everything clean and sleek. Too bad Monki does not ship to Singapore, despite it coming down to around 100SGD, I would seriously consider spending some of my new year money on it, since I'm needing coats and all. It's not everyday you see a denim coat, not to mention one looking all neat and clinical almost, like someone dyed a lab coat blue. Am also wondering if anyone has tried wearing one of those, purely for aesthetic purposes, now that I think about it, might be a bad idea because people might actually think you are a doctor and get you to perform the Heimlich maneuver in a restaurant to the guy choking on his food like it happens in the movies. Oh well, I've always fancied the look of them.

Am I strange yet? ;-)Labels: Fashion, Musings, Wishlist

Ever since A levels have ended, I have been putting off blogging/ tumblring/ doing things I have promised myself to do as a means of improvement (mentally of course) and have instead lazed around. But maybe its because of the part of me, albeit small, that have remained stereotypically asian when it comes to my achievements in life (and not the perpetual straight As, trust me), after a month or so of doing nothing productive, I have finally reached the stage where I can no longer enjoy doing nothing. You know the signs: restlessness, guilt, that voice telling you to get your ass off the couch and back to work.
So here I am, on the last day of 2012, getting my ass back to work.
This brings me to some things that have happened during my disappearance: I've turned 18, got through A levels, got accepted into a university overseas to study design next year, which I'm so so stoked about. And also deathly afraid.
Do not know about you but I have never managed to keep my New Year's resolution. But as a college student, things are finally happening so I need to start really pushing myself towards my dreams, yes? I'm putting my resolutions here, so you guys can tell me off, if I don't keep to it. Here goes:
- Do well enough in university to continue to the 2nd year of my bachelor degree
- Put more effort into this blog, make it into something worth reading. My tumblr as well
- Eat healthier
- Exercise more to look much fitter than the scrawny state I am at now
- Draw more (of course I would with my course in uni, but I really have to brush up, I actually suck now. Have it really been 6 years since I last properly sat down and drew?)
It's short yes, but if at the end of 2013 I managed to accomplish these, all 5 of it, I would be extremely pleased. Have a Happy New Year guys, 2013 shall be the best year yet.

Created a Polyvore account today, which is probably not the best thing to do while I'm trying to spend less time on the computer but it's another idea of mine to mark my 100th post and to make this blog a little more personal/ interesting. Hopefully one day I'll have a decent camera and actually look good in photos so I don't have to resort to polyvore for WIWT posts.. but in the mean time this will do.
Anyway, this was what I wore today to grocery shopping. It's of course not the exact pieces (except for the necklace) but I've tried to make it resemble the real outfit as close as possible, even down to the colour of the jeans. It's really simple and tomboyish which made me happy. Not that I'm sad when I look feminine but it makes me happier when I dress like a boy :-) Choosing what to wear is becoming easier after de-cluttering my wardrobe and making better decisions on the clothes I buy. This time I only took half an hour to get ready. I'm quite pleased with that.
Tomorrow's Monday again and we are getting back our PW results. Fingers crossed for everyone!Labels: Musings, WIWT

Taking a break from studying when I should be tucked away in bed. Living in hostel has made me appreciate things that I guess, as cliche as it might sound, most of us take for granted, home. Yes, it is crazy convenient, the place I live in is practically in school, just a few minutes walk away. But I can't tell you how much I envy my friends, to be able to go back home everyday, to home-cooked food, a fridge that will always be well-stocked, and the simplest thing, a room. Living in the hostel and sharing a room with 3 other people of the same age group may sound oh so exciting. Trust me, I was too. But the privacy, space, comfort is want I've come to crave and miss and almost on the border of hunger for. I'm sick of this environment, of cramp spaces, of shared toilets and bathrooms and of meals that are so unappetizing to me that it may be what's keeping me thin all this while. Of course, it's not all bad, I've learnt so much from this experience.. but that's for another day.
Sometimes it just the pleasure of knowing and being able to blast music out loud and walk around in your underwear.

Romeo and Juliet poster by Beetroot Design Group: Every “Romeo” and “Juliet” throughout the entire text of the play is connected. Along this text the word Juliet appears 180 times and the word Romeo another 308 times. They are brought together with 55,440 red lines.
Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. Have been busy with dance and preparing for Common Tests next week, which I am very worried for. I really hate disappointing my teachers, especially when they are all so nice and encouraging and I especially hate disappointing myself. So much for big dreams.Labels: Art, Musings, School

The Gentlewomen is one of my favourite magazines.
"The Gentlewoman is a biannual magazine for modern women of style and purpose. Featuring ambitious journalism and photography of the highest quality, the magazine celebrates inspirational, international women through its distinctive combination of glamour, personality and warmth. The Gentlewoman offers a fresh and intelligent perspective on fashion that is focused on personal style – the way women actually look, think and dress."
These are some scans from their latest issue and I absolutely love the minimalistic feel that they were going for. Anyone knows where I can get my hands on it? I have always wanted to get a copy, but was never able to find it in the bookstores in Singapore. Will check out Kinokuniya and Basheer Graphic Books in the weekends.
By the way, I stumbled upon Basheer Graphic Books recently and it has become one of my favourite bookstore in Singapore. It sells absolutely fantastic books of all varieties and most of them are not sold anywhere else in Singapore. I always just spend my time in there marveling at the books and wishing I could buy everything. I managed to find so many fashion/ interior design/ illustration books on my wishlist and now it's just the matter of getting the money to purchase them. Oh well.. It's located at Bras Basah Complex, you should really check it out! It's an absolute dream.

Anon: Hello there :) I absolutely adore both your tumblr and your personal blogspot. Could I possibly suggest that you do a beauty/skincare post in your blogspot please? I love reading about people's skincare routine
I thought answering your request here would be better.. It's always nice to hear that people like what I post, knowing that people enjoy my blogs (especially this one) pushes me to continue with it :-) Regarding your request, don't think I'd be doing one any time soon, so sorry! My skin really isn't the best so I don't feel like I have much to share and the post would be a really boring and useless one. Maybe in the future though, when I eventually find where I misplaced my camera and when I find a skincare routine that's good for my skin and all that jazz.
ps. I really enjoy reading about it too so in the mean time, maybe you can check out
Into the Gloss. It has (unfortunately) made me a little crazy about skincare/ haircare products haha!

School has been slightly more manageable after dropping to H1 Chemistry. It was such a tough decision to make because I felt that dropping was a sign that I've given up, and I hate that. There's the thought that I would be able to do it if I put in more effort. But to say the truth, A levels is only about 30+ weeks away, the schedule is out and everything. It isn't the time to wait for good grades in Chemistry that may or may not happen. On the bright side, school work seem more manageable now and I know it was the right decision to make. I don't need chemistry to get into the university course that I'm aiming for and I can now put in more time for my other subjects. Motivation has yet to be found, but I'm trying my best to be less distracted by going out to study so I wouldn't be wasting time on front of my laptop all day.
I am currently really ill. My fever is refusing to go down, temperature is rising actually. My nose is blocked, I can't taste my food and the worse thing is my parents are overseas so I can't recuperate at home. I'm really craving for a huge plate of fruit right now. An huge piece of juicy watermelon would be divine.

I have been saving this for today..Fashion's power couple Scott Schuman and Garance Dore."These guys were cute reading.. We should do that once, I love it when you read to me when we're driving."
Anyway, I really don't like it when everyone is all "Oh, I don't have anyone to celebrate Valentine's Day with #foreveralone" or "tomorrow is just another tuesday". I mean, why fixate on that? I had a wonderful Valentine's day with my friends, it has been like Christmas in February with all the letters and presents which made me feel so loved and so blessed to have them in my life. I'm sure everyone's with have a chance to celebrate Valentine's day with a special someone sooner or later, in the mean time, why not take this chance to do a little more for your friends so they know how much they mean to you? I really don't mind that my school made 14th Feb a big deal for everyone by celebrating it as Friendship Day. It's awesome. Plus I haven't had a proper meal today because I'm so full of sugar from all the chocolate and sweets I've been eating non-stop since morning. They seem to never deplete :-)
ps. Have you by any chance saw the little animation on google's frontpage? It's insanely cute.Labels: Musings, School
Something to make you smile. This is the best thing I've watched in a really long time. She is incredibly adorable and does not look 31 at all.
School has been incredibly draining, just by the end of Monday I'd already feel exhausted (though that might be because of mass PE). Anyway, I feel that not only myself but everyone is so tired and just trying to make it pass this year excelling. Wish I could do something about it. I keep feeling that I'm not cut out for this and the worst thing is I'm not even taking subjects so that I can qualify for a specific course in uni. I have no use for them and that just makes it so much harder to put in effort and study. Someone needs to be here to scold me whenever I take a nap/ draw/ write instead of studying. Someone to be strict with me. I'm really worried for myself. I have zero self-control and get distracted so easily, it's terrible.
Oh Motivation, where art thou?
On another note, Friendship day/ Valentine's Day is coming and I've started writing letters for some people. I feel incredible lucky to have them in my life.Labels: Musings, School

So after 5 years.. I'm going to start drawing again. This is probably not the best time to start doing this, with the heavy workload from school and all but I think it'll be good for me. It started yesterday when I was doodling on my notes for the millionth time during lessons instead of paying attention (haha opps), my friend shook his head and tsk-ed me at the end of the period and I realised that I couldn't help it, it's instinctive for me to draw whenever. And I realised that it's better to 'come to peace' with the fact that I'll never be able to study/ do anything that is artistic in nature, but even so, I should never give it up. It brings me pleasure like music and books do. I would really like to improve in my skill even if it is purely as a hobby. Although after 5 years of not drawing seriously, I probably won't be able to draw/ paint as well as when I was 13, the drawings would probably be terrible. Let's see how it goes.
I have this black leather bound notebook that I use to clip in articles and writings that are inspiring (eg. Secrets of French Girls by Ellen Wallace), those blank pages need to be filled in, I'm gonna start carrying it around with me, along with my set of softlead pencils. Just need to stop thinking that I'll ruin it, it's so pretty!
“Every one of us is losing something precious to us… Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back again. That’s what part of it means to be alive. But inside our heads- at least that’s where I imagine it- there’s a litle room where we store those memories. A room like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in a while, let fresh air in, change the water in the flower vases. In other words, you’ll live for ever in your own private library.”
- Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore
Comfortable - John Mayer
This wonderful song has been on repeat the past few days, the lyrics are really nice. I will always be a fan of John Mayer.Labels: Music, Musings
I finally found and bought A History of Love by Nicole Krauss on Friday. Started on it yesterday and couldn't put it down. It's about loss but it doesn't make me feel entirely sad, there is humour in it and makes me smile. Have you ever read something that was heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time? It's the first time I feel the need to highlight in a book, to mark out the wonderful bits of it. But I didn't of course. It haunts me even after I put it down. It makes me want to send a long heartfelt letter to those that are important to me and tell them "You mean a lot to me, don't ever leave."
This particular part was entitled
The Death of Isaac Babel:
Only after they charged him with the crime of silence did Babel discover how many kinds of silences existed. When he heard music he no longer listened to the notes, but the silences in between. When he read a book he gave himself over entirely to commas and semicolons, to the space after the period and before the capital letter of the next sentence. He discovered the places in a room where silence gathered; the folds of curtain drapes, the deep bowls of the family silver. When people spoke to him, he heard less and less of what they were not. He learned to decipher the meaning of certain silences, which is like solving a tough case without any clues, not only intuition. And no one could accuse him of not being prolific in his chosen métier. Daily, he turned out whole epics of silence. In the beginning it had been difficult. Imagine the burden of keeping silent when your child asks you whether God exists, or the woman you love asks if you love her back. At first Babel longed for the use of just two words: Yes and No. But he knew that just to utter a single word would be to destroy the delicate fluency of silence.
Even after they arrested him and burned all of his manuscripts, which were all blank pages, he refused to speak. Not even a groan when they gave him a blow to the head, a boot tip in the groin. Only at the last possible moment, as he faced the firing squad, did the writer Babel suddenly sense the possibility of his error. As the rifles were pointed at his chest he wondered if what he had taken for the richness of silence was really the poverty of never being heard. He had thought the possibilities of human silence were endless. But as the bullets tore from the rifles, his body was riddled with the truth. And a small part of him laughed bitterly because, anyway, how could he have forgotten what he had always known: There’s no match for the silence of God.
How do you feel? How can anyone not hear silence after reading that and not feel sad for the things that should have been said but were not, because words failed to convey the emotions behind them and silence replaced it instead? There are so many other beautiful passages in the book and I really recommend you to pick it up (plus if you did, the title of this post would have made you smile :>).

During one of my many travels into the web last year, searching about universities that offer liberal arts in america (yes, I am set on going there, I must!) I found out about NYU Global Liberal Studies and realised that it was exactly what I was looking for. In an effort to find something to motivate me to study hard for the rest of this year, I did a little research today. I have never felt this excited about something for a really long time. It's kind of like finding out that the book you have been waiting for will be released soon, or shopping and finding something that's worth more then the price you paid. Anyway, NYU GLS is really quite perfect and I really hope that I'll get to study there/ that. But it's so incredibly hard to get in because the classes are small and it's a relatively new program, so they don't really accept many students. Those who got in are crazy clever people (from what I gather through the net).
If you want to know more about NYU GLS and why I'm almost desperate to get in:

I'm missing how things used to be, past memories and the people in it. I miss those people. The care-freeness of childhood, when you only worry about things like what to have for the next meal. Time in school was spend laughing and running around with friends and homework was something manageable and at times fun. Now, I feel stagnant. I feel like people are growing and moving on, doing exciting things in their lives, but here I am, stuck in a rut of gloom and worry. Its Chinese New Year and everyone's having so much fun, but my mind just keep going back into the gloom. This year is so so tough and it's only the beginning. School is demanding so much more and pushing us to our limits. Sometimes I wonder if I can survive through this, and regain some of that care-freeness that was left forgotten in my childhood.
I want to go back to the past, but at the same time I am desperate to be done with 2012. Best friend, where on earth are you? I need someone to tell me everything will be alright, that I'm capable to accomplish all that I dream of, and make me believe it, not question it. Ugh I'm depressing.

I realised that if life starts becoming more hectic, I'll turn to styles that are fuss-free, simple and comfortable. Only one week of school has passed, and I feel so unbelievably tired. Hope that I'll have to strength to finish this year great (putting in my 110%), and then I can finally start applying for universities and doing something I enjoy. Anyway, 6 years in this school is more than enough, I think. Oh December, I'm awaiting your arrival.

Haven't been updating much lately (I apologize with three posts today, I have things to share!) because I was so busy with everything, mostly prom, but it's finally over and it was a really wonderful experience. Especially when we had such a rocky start but everything turned out alright and the whole prom committee became closer, it's wonderful. Also it marked the first time I wore heels (not just try them on) for more than 6 hours and it was painful. I have never been so grateful to feel flat ground under my feet.
Was thinking about the prom king and queen and I felt happy to be in this school, despite the numerous time I've complained about the stress. The prom king and queen won not because of their appearance (of course they looked fantastic) but you could feel that they won because the cohort genuinely liked them, none of those cliche american drama where the prom queen is the manipulative head cheerleader and the king is the jock who sleeps around haha!
Next year is going to be really tough, with A levels and all, but I really look forward to my prom next year, seeing everyone all dressed up, having fun, celebrating the end of A levels, the good times at DHS and the start of our lifes.

There is so many things that is wonderful about this video: the two gorgeous houses, the clothes she's wearing (if I could, I would buy everything from Zara), her voice.. there is a kind of satisfaction and pleasure in her voice when she talks about her job and the things she does. That's what I aim for mostly: to do something that brings me joy.Labels: Inspiration, Interiors, Musings

Rushed to the bookstore to check if they have Inheritance in stock today. I am now a proud owner of all four books in the Inheritance cycle. I missed this feeling: being excited to buy a book and the feeling of opening it, knowing that for the following few days, my world will be filled with interesting people and magic. Tomorrow before my tuition, I'm going to spend 2 hours in Starbucks with a cup of coffee and Inheritance in my hands. Who needs man to make you feel happy when you have books? Haha! Hope your day had been great like mine!Labels: Musings
Don't know if anyone noticed, but my tumblr changed quite a bit in these few months. It's cleaner and there is so much more white and minimalism in it. So is my taste in clothes, design and interior design. I always do that, went through a phase where I liked everything dreamy and whimsical before this. I like to think it's because I'm maturing in the way I view things :-)
My father gave me a men's watch for my birthday. Those big chunky silver kind. He says it's not, but I'm quite sure it is for men. I'd probably get weird looks from people if I wear it out and it looks quite enormous on me but I really like it surprisingly. I'm so obsessed with watches recently. Would really want a gold one and one with a black leather strap.

Still haven't decide what to ask mum to get me. I'm thinking of a pair of new black shoes or those really nice oxford shirts from Uniqlo... or black patent loafers, if a miracle happens and I actually find those in Singapore

Nerd moment: It's announced that Inheritance will be released on 8th November. I have no idea what date it will actually reach Singapore, but I am so so excited. I have been waiting for almost 3 years for it. Will get it once it hits the book stores! Ahhhhhh!
