Romeo and Juliet poster by Beetroot Design Group: Every “Romeo” and “Juliet” throughout the entire text of the play is connected. Along this text the word Juliet appears 180 times and the word Romeo another 308 times. They are brought together with 55,440 red lines.

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. Have been busy with dance and preparing for Common Tests next week, which I am very worried for. I really hate disappointing my teachers, especially when they are all so nice and encouraging and I especially hate disappointing myself. So much for big dreams.

Desicions

School has been slightly more manageable after dropping to H1 Chemistry. It was such a tough decision to make because I felt that dropping was a sign that I've given up, and I hate that. There's the thought that I would be able to do it if I put in more effort. But to say the truth, A levels is only about 30+ weeks away, the schedule is out and everything. It isn't the time to wait for good grades in Chemistry that may or may not happen. On the bright side, school work seem more manageable now and I know it was the right decision to make. I don't need chemistry to get into the university course that I'm aiming for and I can now put in more time for my other subjects. Motivation has yet to be found, but I'm trying my best to be less distracted by going out to study so I wouldn't be wasting time on front of my laptop all day.

I am currently really ill. My fever is refusing to go down, temperature is rising actually. My nose is blocked, I can't taste my food and the worse thing is my parents are overseas so I can't recuperate at home. I'm really craving for a huge plate of fruit right now. An huge piece of juicy watermelon would be divine.

I have the best friends that anyone can ever have

I have been saving this for today..Fashion's power couple Scott Schuman and Garance Dore.
"These guys were cute reading.. We should do that once, I love it when you read to me when we're driving."

Anyway, I really don't like it when everyone is all "Oh, I don't have anyone to celebrate Valentine's Day with #foreveralone" or "tomorrow is just another tuesday". I mean, why fixate on that? I had a wonderful Valentine's day with my friends, it has been like Christmas in February with all the letters and presents which made me feel so loved and so blessed to have them in my life. I'm sure everyone's with have a chance to celebrate Valentine's day with a special someone sooner or later, in the mean time, why not take this chance to do a little more for your friends so they know how much they mean to you? I really don't mind that my school made 14th Feb a big deal for everyone by celebrating it as Friendship Day. It's awesome. Plus I haven't had a proper meal today because I'm so full of sugar from all the chocolate and sweets I've been eating non-stop since morning. They seem to never deplete :-)

ps. Have you by any chance saw the little animation on google's frontpage? It's insanely cute.

Something to make you smile. This is the best thing I've watched in a really long time. She is incredibly adorable and does not look 31 at all.

School has been incredibly draining, just by the end of Monday I'd already feel exhausted (though that might be because of mass PE). Anyway, I feel that not only myself but everyone is so tired and just trying to make it pass this year excelling. Wish I could do something about it. I keep feeling that I'm not cut out for this and the worst thing is I'm not even taking subjects so that I can qualify for a specific course in uni. I have no use for them and that just makes it so much harder to put in effort and study. Someone needs to be here to scold me whenever I take a nap/ draw/ write instead of studying. Someone to be strict with me. I'm really worried for myself. I have zero self-control and get distracted so easily, it's terrible.
Oh Motivation, where art thou?

On another note, Friendship day/ Valentine's Day is coming and I've started writing letters for some people. I feel incredible lucky to have them in my life.

NYU GLS here I come

During one of my many travels into the web last year, searching about universities that offer liberal arts in america (yes, I am set on going there, I must!) I found out about NYU Global Liberal Studies and realised that it was exactly what I was looking for. In an effort to find something to motivate me to study hard for the rest of this year, I did a little research today. I have never felt this excited about something for a really long time. It's kind of like finding out that the book you have been waiting for will be released soon, or shopping and finding something that's worth more then the price you paid. Anyway, NYU GLS is really quite perfect and I really hope that I'll get to study there/ that. But it's so incredibly hard to get in because the classes are small and it's a relatively new program, so they don't really accept many students. Those who got in are crazy clever people (from what I gather through the net).

If you want to know more about NYU GLS and why I'm almost desperate to get in:

Depressing nostalgia

I'm missing how things used to be, past memories and the people in it. I miss those people. The care-freeness of childhood, when you only worry about things like what to have for the next meal. Time in school was spend laughing and running around with friends and homework was something manageable and at times fun. Now, I feel stagnant. I feel like people are growing and moving on, doing exciting things in their lives, but here I am, stuck in a rut of gloom and worry. Its Chinese New Year and everyone's having so much fun, but my mind just keep going back into the gloom. This year is so so tough and it's only the beginning. School is demanding so much more and pushing us to our limits. Sometimes I wonder if I can survive through this, and regain some of that care-freeness that was left forgotten in my childhood.

I want to go back to the past, but at the same time I am desperate to be done with 2012. Best friend, where on earth are you? I need someone to tell me everything will be alright, that I'm capable to accomplish all that I dream of, and make me believe it, not question it. Ugh I'm depressing.

Fuss-free

I realised that if life starts becoming more hectic, I'll turn to styles that are fuss-free, simple and comfortable. Only one week of school has passed, and I feel so unbelievably tired. Hope that I'll have to strength to finish this year great (putting in my 110%), and then I can finally start applying for universities and doing something I enjoy. Anyway, 6 years in this school is more than enough, I think.
Oh December, I'm awaiting your arrival.

Prom

Haven't been updating much lately (I apologize with three posts today, I have things to share!) because I was so busy with everything, mostly prom, but it's finally over and it was a really wonderful experience. Especially when we had such a rocky start but everything turned out alright and the whole prom committee became closer, it's wonderful. Also it marked the first time I wore heels (not just try them on) for more than 6 hours and it was painful. I have never been so grateful to feel flat ground under my feet.

Was thinking about the prom king and queen and I felt happy to be in this school, despite the numerous time I've complained about the stress. The prom king and queen won not because of their appearance (of course they looked fantastic) but you could feel that they won because the cohort genuinely liked them, none of those cliche american drama where the prom queen is the manipulative head cheerleader and the king is the jock who sleeps around haha!

Next year is going to be really tough, with A levels and all, but I really look forward to my prom next year, seeing everyone all dressed up, having fun, celebrating the end of A levels, the good times at DHS and the start of our lifes.

Promos results are back. I'm not pleased with it at all, if I continue like this, A levels will be so so bad. Really need to work so much harder if I want to study overseas.

Was sitting on a bench outside today and a man approached me for directions, commented that my rings were beautiful and asked if I was alone. I've never been more afraid and confused. Anyway, I think I'm coming down with something. My head feels like it's going to explode from sneezing so much and when I swallow, my throat burns. Need some lozenges but sadly they are no where to be found. I feel quite terrible )-:

ps. I think my throat is bleeding.. need to see a doctor, but I can't leave my bed.

The best news

I talked to my father! I talked to my father! I talked to my father about studying liberal arts in US! Oh gosh, I'm so so happy because he said it wouldn't be a problem, I just have to work hard into getting into one. He does prefer me to go for the Yule-NUS one, but at least he didn't say no. Will work really really really hard for school from now on and try to get a scholarship :-)

Artists
Sunday, 18 September 2011 @ 01:38

I have so much respect for artists. Writers, dancers, painters, musicians, designers, actors.. I think it really takes a lot of courage to study art or pursue a career in art, especially today where everyone wants to earn money and be rich. Being passionate is very important to me, I think it's that one quality that will keep you going and happy and, I know this unbelievably cliche, it's makes life more beautiful because you have something that you are passionate about.

I think everyone is born an artist. Everyone feel, and when you feel something, you express it. Babies cry to express their unhappiness, children draw how they view the world, it just comes naturally. But when we grow older, we learn to keep our feelings to ourselves, because we are supposed to be mature, sensible, we are supposed to be 'adults'. But artists feel, because expressing important than being sensible, because we see so much more beauty that way.

I wish I had the courage enough to do that. It's so easy to chose the conventional path, study science, get a degree in science and there would be tons of jobs to chose from out there that  you'll won't have a hard time earning money. It's easier to chose what's realistic and safe than to chose to do what you're passionate about. That's why I have so much respect for artist.

I remember asking a representative from an Art School in UK during a university convention about a course interior design, and it was when she told me I won't be able to study that because I don't study art for A levels and I don't have a portfolio, that it hit me. What I'm I even doing, studying the science course? I'm not good at it and I absolutely hate it. I'll never feel the way about sciences the way I feel when I draw, when I'm learning about international history and politics. And I won't be able to chose to study courses that I like university, I'm regretting so terribly for dropping art because 'my studies are more important'. There are many who, when asked what they regret in life, would reply with nothing because it made them who they are today. I don't think I'd ever feel this way. I will always regret that choice I made in primary 6. I wish there had been someone to tell me that there is nothing less important about art and to go for it. I'm so frustrated at myself, what was I thinking?

Singapore really needs to rethink her educational system. There is so many science and Chinese subjects offered during secondary school and in JC and barely a handful of arts and humanities course. Oh sure, you want to develop students who are creative thinkers, you want to make Singapore into a arts hub, but with all these emphasis on sciences are you providing enough choices and opportunities to make that happen? I'm not putting the blame on someone else, it's entirely my fault for choosing what I'm studying today, but I think things would had been different if there was a better environment for artistic pursuits in schools. Ahhh, c'est la vie. For those who are still pursuing your passion: respect.

This have been a rant and half of it doesn't even make sense. Hmmm, I live in my head too much sometimes. I wish I was able to express myself better, this sounded so much better in my head and now that I've typed it out, it sounds stupid and insignificant. Anyway, today I found out that there's a design school/ uni in Singapore. They offer fashion design, interior design and everything. Be right back, wallowing in self-pity.
