What is it about jazz/ blues that sound sexy to me? What is it about jazz that make me think of rainy days in New York (even though I've never been to NY in my entire life)? My father loves jazz, he loves music in general really. Especially classical music and jazz. For as long as I can remember, before I started staying in school and before my siblings and I were separated to different countries, dinner was always accompanied by jazz or classical music, and many instances of my father failing terribly at singing along. I'm really thankful for him. He never told us what to be when we grow up. He never made us take up piano/ violin lessons or anything like that. I'll never forget that he secretly took me and my brother's drawings to enroll us in art class because he saw that we enjoyed drawing. I'll never forget that he and my mom never forced us to achieve good grades like most Asian parents, but rather ensured that we tried our best. But I guess that's what made us feel guilty when we didn't right? He may be stubborn, old and so so hard to talk to, I'll never forget that he trusted us to make the right choices especially with school and believed in us to pursue our passion. He understood passion.
Did I mentioned that he stayed in Paris for a year long before he got married to my mom? Can you imagine an Asian man living in Paris? The language barrier? Oh that must have been a wonderful experience. Come to think of it, that explains all those french books books at home. I sure do hope one day I'd understand them. For now, I just admire the lovely pictures inside and the way those strange words looks.
